CHIRP

Learn how to read music notes with these colorful and wacky looking birds. Place the birds on their preferred spot and hear them sing. Play while also learning the basics of reading music notes.

GAME OVERVIEW

Chirp is an educational android app that learns children how to read notes in a very playful and fun way. Levels are designed to ease the player into learning notes. From introducing 1 bird to mixing them with other notes while slowly changing the birds into actual notes.

DESIGN GOALS

The idea of Chirp is to learn children how to read basic notes. To do this we decided to disguise the notes as something more fun and cuter. We decided to turn the notes into birds and the staff into electrical wires. The birds are also all uniquely designed to have a unique color and shape attached to it so that the player can link the tone of the note with the shape and color of the bird. We also designed our levels to first introduce a bird, make the player familiar while also adding different kinds of birds. When all the birds are introduced, and the player has completed enough levels with them, we will then slowly remove aspects of the bird to then finally change them into real music notes.

DEVELOPMENT

Chirp was a 5-month school project where we are asked to make an educational game. I took the role as main concept designer and project manager. We chose unity to create our project because we could easier port it over to mobile. This was my first mobile project and learning how to port games to unity was quite an interesting task. Our project was very well received by our teacher earning me an 80% score.
